Bringing more students to the table
Beginning in fall 2021, students at IU Bloomington will be able to earn a master’s degree in Food Studies through a new interdisciplinary program run by the departments of Anthropology and Geography.
New Food Studies M.A. launched in Anthropology
A new master’s program focused on the cultural, environmental, and policy aspects of food will be offered at IU-Bloomington this fall. The new two-year master’s degree in food studies will be offered by the College of Arts and Sciences, according to an IU press release.

"From Weeping Hills to Hidden Caves: Exploring Cahokia's Vibrant Landscapes"
Susan Alt has received research funding from IU’s Office for the Vice President for Research to begin a new field project this summer. The landscape archaeology project “From Weeping Hills to Hidden Caves: Exploring Cahokia’s Vibrant Landscapes” will conduct initial surveys of the region surrounding the world-famous archaeological site of Cahokia, near modern St Louis, the only pre-Columbian city in North America, to evaluate alternative hypotheses to explain the emergence of this particular location as a major urban center.

Professor Sarah Phillips, Director of the Russian and Eastern European Institute, will be delivering a featured talk on November 11, 2018 in St Petersburn, Russia: "How effective, bottom-up approaches can produce effective health interventions - Medical Anthropology and the Case of HIV prevention in the Ukraine." This paper is based on the results of her recent, multi-year, collaborative research project, funded by the National Institute for Drug Abuse NIDA.

It is with great sadness that we share the news of the death of our colleague, Ling-yu Hung, on April 26, 2018 in Taiwan after a long battle with cancer. She was greatly admired as a colleague and friend, enhancing the quality of the department and maintaining an active research agenda despite her illness.
