This program introduces you to a broad range of anthropological topics, including heritage and cultural patrimony, linguistic change and revitalization, sustainable tourism, public archaeology, and indigenous rights. You will meet local activists and community leaders, and experience Oaxaca's tremendous cultural diversity. Oaxaca City will be our primary home base, where we will explore linguistics, the arts, and archaeology by visiting museums, archives, archaeological sites, festivals, and markets. We will also travel to the different regions where the faculty maintain active field projects: the cloud forests of the Sierra Mixe, the Valley of Oaxaca, Nejapa and Quiechapa in the Sierra Sur, the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, and the Pacific coast. In all of these locations, you will experience anthropological research first-hand.
