Anthropology students, faculty and friends were out in force, for the 5th annual campus Science Fest.
- Riss Emond, with the help of Tyler Nighswander, led a group of B301 students in SB060, introducing folks to science of bipedalism and Paleo-diet, which Andrea Wiley first created last year.
- Beatriz Barros and Jorge Rios Allier, helped by our alumna Megan Vladoiu, introduced visitors to the history of stone tools (and pumpkin carving with stone flakes); the origins of art and personalized cave-painting with hand stencils; how to make and decorate clay pots, using a coil technique and cockle shell impressions; and exploring negative painted designs on plates, based on the Angel Mounds Site, with an ink-stamp activity courtesy of the Glenn Black Lab, April Sievert and Jennifer St Germain.
- Rita Stephens, a volunteer in Kevin Hunt's lab, helped set everything up and then kept kids busy out front with a spear-throwing activity, using Atlatls to get a "wild boar."
- Lana Ruck and Molly Mesner assisted our colleague Ed Herrmann in his flint-knapping demos, which had a rapt audience all day long, and got a great write-up in the Herald-Times.
