Our program integrates classroom and internship experiences to provide a unique opportunity for students to apply knowledge immediately and gain valuable work experience. Given the applied focus of the program, it is important for you to gain experience in on-the-ground problem solving and engagement with the kinds of issues you will encounter in their work as food systems professionals.

There is a strong labor market for those engaged in “all things food.” The Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates strong growth in employment for food educators, food consultants, and food managers. Opportunities for employment exist in many career areas, including the following:
- USDA Agricultural Extension Agency (for students having some agricultural background)
- dietetics, nutrition, and public health
- health agencies, hospitals, and the field of medicine
- numerous sustainability and food security director jobs available through academic, governmental, NGO, and private industry groups
