A leading center for the study of food systems

Indiana University is home to many faculty and campus resources focused on food and food-related issues. Food-related courses and research are conducted in many disciplines, including Anthropology, Geography, Biology, History, Political Science, as well as other schools at IU such as the School of Public Health, or the Paul O’Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs.

Campus Farm

The Campus Farm’s mission is to promote sustainable food systems education through food production, research, creative activity, service, and outreach to the campus, community, and beyond.

Sustainable Food Systems Science

This research initiative seeks to understand sustainable food system development, from farm to fork, by studying the leverage points that can be used to build more resilient and sustainable food systems that support food justice, public health and well-being, sustain more livelihoods, and improve civic and community life.

Center for Rural Engagement

The goal of the Center for Rural Engagement is to increase access to local food for residential and institutional consumers by cultivating the local food value chain across southern Indiana.

IU Food Institute

The IU Food Institute is dedicated to addressing the pressing human and environmental challenges of providing both sustaining and sustainable food for a changing planet.
