Topic: Business anthropology
Anthropology provides creative insights and solutions for tackling business problems often overlooked by more data-driven approaches. From the practical (e.g., how to design a user-friendly digital platform) to the ethical (e.g., what are the responsibilities of a corporation to society), this course explores how practitioners and companies engage anthropology to study, critique, and/or meet the needs of the private sector. The first half of class explores disciplinary methods of inquiry, practical theory, project design, fieldwork, and ethics for the purposes of solving complex business problems. The second half of class delves more deeply into special topics in business anthropology: organizational culture, market & consumer research, and user experience (UX) design.
