First, attend Professor Nikki Jones's keynote address "The Chosen Ones: Black Men and the Politics of Redemption" on Thursday, April 25th at 4:00PM IMU Oak Room.
Nikki Jones is an associate professor in the University of California, Berkeley Department of African American Studies. Her areas of expertise include urban ethnography, race and ethnic relations and criminology and criminal justice, with a special emphasis on the intersection of race, gender, and justice. Professor Jones has published three books, including the sole-authored Between Good and Ghetto: African American Girls and Inner City Violence (2010), published in the Rutgers University Press Series in Childhood Studies. Her talk will be centered on her newest book The Chosen Ones: Black Men and the Politics of Redemption.
The Graduate Student Symposium panels will take place on Friday, April 26th 10:30 - 3:45 PM in the IMU Maple and Walnut Rooms. This year's panels will feature works in Sociology, History, Ethnomusicology, English, Media Studies, and more. During the lunch break, check out the CRRES Undergraduate Research Program Student Poster Presentations 1:15 - 2:15 PM in the Walnut Room.
