About Hayden Bernard

Hayden is a student studying zooarchaeology at the William R. Adams Zooarchaeology Laboratory (WRAZL). His primary research interest involves reconstructing ecological relationships between people and their local environment by using archaeological fish remains from the 18th, 19th, and early 20th-centuries. In addition to fishes, his research explores other less frequently studied fauna in the Chesapeake Bay such as pond turtles and birds. He has presented this kind of research at both local and national conferences, including a poster on Chesapeake Bay turtles at the 2024 Society for American Archaeology conference. In his position at WRAZL, Hayden uses the comparative collection in his ongoing projects, while also working on other adjacent research and helping students that participate in lab work.
