This class throws you into a world of archaeological discovery in the Americas, Asia, Europe, Africa, and the Near East. We touch on archaeology¿s basic philosophy, methods, and theories as we review the last 10,000 years of human history, looking for what varies from epoch to epoch and place to place¿and what doesn¿t. We focus on specific problems, people, and places¿King Tut¿s tomb, Stonehenge worshipers, warring Vikings, Cahokia¿s dead, kings, and slaves. The course is planned for non-Anthropology majors and is meant to appeal to students who have always had an interest in archaeology but who may or may not know much about the deep past. You¿ll see that archaeological finds from around the world help us understand all of human history, and also help us better understand ourselves.
